WORKING, PRINCIPLE & VARIOUS APPLICATIONS of Speaker

WHAT IS A SPEAKER ?

Speakers operate by moving a mass of air in such a way that it creates audible sound. typically, Speakers converts electrical impulses into sound. All Speakers are passive or powered. most Speakers that are commercially available are passive. passive speakers do not have a bit-in amplifier and must be connected to an amplifier using a regular Speaker wire. powered Speakers are also known as self-powered or active Powered Speakers often require a heavy enclosure, making them less mobile and functional than passive Speakers.

TYPES OF SPEAKERS

  • DYNAMIC: The most common types of speaker, these device are typically passive Speakers. They generally have one or more woofer driver to produce low- frequency sound, which is also known as b
  • SUBWOOFER: subwoofer are one- driver dynamic loudspeaker with a single woofer driver.the Speakers enclosure typically includes a bass port to increase low- frequency performance.these Speakers are used to transmit bass or low- frequency sound.
  • HORN:horn Speakers are similar to Dynamic Speakers in that they use similar driver arranged at the small end of a cone- type structure.the driver is attached to a wave-Guide Structure.this type of Speaker offers a high degree of sensitivity and transmit sound efficiently in large areas.
  • ELECTROSTATIC: are a type of flat-Panel loudspeaker or diaphragm Speaker.
  • PLANAR-MAGNETIC: these speakers feature a tall, thin,& narrow Metal ribbon instead of the wide diaphragms found on Electrostatic Speaker.

PARTS OF A SPEAKERS

  • The cone and the dust cap ( the parts that move air and produce sound ).
  • The spider and the surround (also called the suspension, these are the parts that hold the cone in place while still allowing them to move).
  • The magnet and the voice coil( the parts that interact to convert electric).
  • The basket.
  • The pole and top plate.
  • Finally the frame that mounts everything together.

HOW DO SPEAKER WORK ?

Speakers work by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy ( motion).

The mechanical energy compresses air and converts the motion into sound energy or sound pressure level ( SPL ).

When an electric current is sent through a coil of wire, it induces a magnetic field.

Speakers, a current is sent through the voice coil which produces an electric field that interacts with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet attached to the speaker.

Like charges repel each other and different charges attract. As an audio single is sent through the voice coil and the musical waveform moves up and down, the voice coil is attracted and repelled by the permanent magnet.

APPLICATIONS OF SPEAKER

  • WHAT SEPARATES THE BEST SPEAKER FROM AN OK SPEAKER ?

If every frequency is accurately reproduced to the listener without adding or removing any information it’s probably a superb Speaker.

There are several factors that determine how accurate the listening experience will be including the frequency response, the amount of distortion, and the directionality( dispersion) on the Speaker.

WHAT IS FREQUENCY RESPONSE AND WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

The ideal frequency response for a speaker is very flat.
